4 Vehicle Fluids Essential To Keep Your Car Running

As a car owner, you know it’s essential to keep up with routine maintenance. Changing your engine oil and checking your tire pressure are key to running your car smoothly. But there are various other fluids in your car that are just as important – and you may not even know it.

In this blog post, Mandal Buick/GMC will discuss the essential car fluids and how they work to keep your vehicle running properly. We’ll also talk about when you should change them and how to tell if they need attention. So read on for all the basic info you need to keep your car healthy!

Engine Oil

The engine oil is perhaps the most essential car fluid of all. It’s responsible for lubricating the moving parts of your engine. If it’s not replaced regularly, your car’s engine will start to wear down quickly. You should replace your engine oil every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first.

How can you tell if your engine oil needs to be changed? One way is to check the levels – if they’re low, that’s a sign that the oil needs to be replaced. You can also look at the oil color; if it’s dark or sludgy, that means it’s time for a change.

Transmission Fluid

The transmission fluid is another essential car fluid. It helps keep your car’s transmission running smoothly, and it also helps prevent corrosion. It would be best if you changed your transmission fluid every 30,000 to 50,000 miles or every two years, whichever comes first.

How will you know if your transmission fluid needs to be changed? The first clear sign is when the gears start to slip. You may also feel that your car is no longer as responsive as it used to be or that it’s harder to change gears.

Brake Oil

Brake oil is another car fluid that is often ignored by most car owners. It helps keep your car’s brakes working correctly and helps prevent corrosion in brake discs. There’s no prime time for brake oil top-up. But we recommend changing it after every 40,000 to 50,000 miles.

How can you tell if your brake oil needs to be changed? A clear sign is when the brake pedal feels mushy or spongy. You may also hear a squealing noise when you brake.

Car Coolant

One of the car fluids essential to keep your car running is car coolant. It helps keep your car’s engine from overheating, and it also protects the system from corrosion. Car coolant works by absorbing heat from the engine and then transferring it to the air passing through the radiator.

This allows your engine to run at a cooler temperature, which in turn reduces wear and tear on the engine. A clear sign that your car gives when it’s low on car coolant is: the radiator cap becomes too hot to the touch. When this happens, add car coolant immediately.

Ending Note

Keeping your car running smoothly takes a little bit of effort, but it’s worth it to avoid costly repairs in the future. Make sure you are checking car fluid levels and adding them as needed.
